He is known as one of the best connoisseurs of the drawings of Rembrandt and his pupils: Peter Schatborn (1936). After his retirement from the Rijksprentenkabinet, of which he was director until 2001, he worked, amongst others, as guest scholar at the Getty Research Institute (Los Angeles) and as guest curator of the exhibition Drawings by Rembrandt and his pupils: Telling the Difference (Los Angeles 2009-10). He furthermore curated exhibitions at Fondation Custodia in Paris and the Frick Collection in New York, both again dealing with questions of attribution of drawings in relation to Rembrandt and his circle.

On Friday May 20th, Peter Schatborn will give a guest lecture entitled Oude tekeningen, nieuwe namen in the context of the Art & Culture MA seminar ‘Kennerschap’. This seminar is one of the two core seminars constituting the focus on ‘Kunst, Markt en Connoisseurschap’ (aka KMC) within our MA specialization art history. Other Art & Culture students or interested participants are warmly welcome to join us for Schatborn’s guest lecture. It will take place on May 20th, 11-13 am, room 11 A 24 in the VU main building. Please be aware that the lecture will be held in Dutch. (RB)
